Note: Sumizô VI also portrayed Yasuke in a production at
the Hongô-za in March 1923.  I cannot rule out the
possibility that this print reflects that performance.

November 1924.   I cannot rule out the possibility that this
print reflects that performance.

Nakamura Fukusuke V
(中村福助) as Oshichi (お七)

Play: Shochikubai Yushima no
Kagegaku (松竹梅湯島掛額)
Performance Place: Hongô-za,
Tokyo
Performance Date: 02/04/1926
Print Date: ?
Artist: Tanaka Shikô (田中紫光)
Medium: Woodblock printed
envelope (pochibukuro) [Set OG1]
Personal Collection

Note: During the time that Shikô
was active, Fukusuke V also
performed this role in Kichisama
Mairu Yukari no Otozure
(吉様参由縁音信) at the Shintomi-
za in January 1923, and in Oshichi
Kichisa (お七吉三) at the Hongô-
za in May 1924.  This print could
depict one of those performances.
However, this design was
reproduced as a frontispiece in a
May 1926 issue of Engei to Eiga,
making it like that it depicts the
February 1926 performance.
