Note: Arajirô II first played this role in Tokyo at
the Meiji-za in October 1895.  Given the
publication date of the print, it is possible that it
reflects a subsequent performance in some other
venue outside of Tokyo.  Arajirô II's final
appearance in this role in Tokyo was at the
Tokyo Gekijô in December 1940.

Note: This appears to be a memorial print for Arajirô II, who died
on June 16, 1957.  He first played this role in Tokyo at the Meiji-za in
October 1895.  Arajirô II's final appearance in this role in Tokyo was
at the Tokyo Gekijô in December 1940.  His final appearance in
this role was at the Osaka Kabuki-za in April 1949.

Note: This appears to be a memorial print for
Arajirô II, who died on June 16, 1957.  Arajirô II’s
final performances at Tôyoko Hall in June 1957
were as the Landlord Sakuhei (家主作兵衞) in
Jûgoya Monogatari (十五夜物語) and  Akama
Genzaemon (赤間源左衛門) in Sakura Fubuki
Tsuki no Yokogushi (桜花吹雪月横櫛). 
Although purporting to be hanga genga in the
2002 and 1991 Shunsen catalogs, it appears to
be a finished painting and I have not found a
hand-colored keyblock print for this design.
