Note: It is unclear if this is a woodblock print, a watercolor
drawing, or a hand-colored keyblock print for an
unpublished design. Baikô VI died on November
8, 1934 at age 65. He first played the role of Togakushi
no Kijo in this play in Tokyo at the Kabuki-za in June 1903.
Although Baikô VI's final Tokyo appearance in this role
was in October 1933, it is possible that Gakô based this
print on one of Baikô VI's prior performances.

Note: This print was commissioned after Baikô VI's death.
It is possible that it was issued in the same wrapper as the
Baikô VI shini-e shown below. Baikô VI first performed
the role of Onatsu in September 1914 at the Teikoku
Gekijô in Tokyo. He is also known to have performed the
role in Tokyo at the Teikoku Gekijô in October 1921,
October 1925, and June 1930. It is possible that this
print is based on one of those earlier performances.
