Note: Baikô VII first played the role of Fujitsubo in this play
in Tokyo at the Kabuki-za in March 1951, and again at the
Kabuki-za in October of the same year.  It is possible that
Gakô based this print on one of these prior performances.

Note: This depicts a Soga brothers play such as
Soga no Taimen (曾我対面).  However, I have
not found an instance where all three actors
appeared in Tokyo in these specific roles at the
same time.  A similar but more detailed version
of this design is shown in the 2002 and 1991
Shunsen catalogs (and appears to be a painting).

Note: Baikô VII's only known appearances in this role during
Binnie's time in Japan were in Meoto Dôjôji (男女道成寺) at
the Misono-za in Nagoya in October 1993 and in Kyōganoko
Musume Sannin Dôjôji (京鹿子娘三人道成寺) at the Kabuki-za
in  Tokyo in November 1992 (with fellow Otowaya Guiild
members Onoe Kikugorô VII and Onoe Ushinosuke VI). 
However,  Baikô VII performed the role of Hanako many
times since the early 1950s, and this print is likely based
on a broadcast recording of one of those earlier performances.
