Note:  This print was commissioned for an exhibition at
the Mead Art Museum, Amherst College, in
Massachusetts.  The design was made to fit with a
bottom sheet from a Utagawas school diptych that
showed the samurai's legs.  The tattoo is based on a
painting by Torii (VIII) Kotondo (鳥居言人).  This scene
appears in plays and dances such as Kiichi Hôgen
Sanryaku no Maki (鬼一法眼三略巻) and Hashi Benkei
      (橋辨慶).
