Note: It is unclear if this print is an idealized represenation of the character
Dontarô or if it is based upon a specific performance.  The only production
of this play in the relevant time period played at the Ichimura-za in January
1921 with Onoe Kikugorô VI (尾上菊五郎) as Dontarô.  Dontarô,
however, is also a character in the play Suôtoshi (素襖落), which was
frequently performed in Tokyo during the Taisho Era, most often with
Ichikawa Omezô IV (市川男女蔵) as Dontarô, including performances at
the Shinbashi Enbujô in May 1925, at the Ichimura-z in April 1923, and at
the Kabuki-za in June 1920 and November 1917.
