Note: Fukuzuke V first played the role of Hanako in this
play at the Kabuki-za in December 1920.  He also played
Hanako in Tokyo in productions of Kyôganoko Musume
Dôjôji (京鹿子娘道成寺) at the Kabuki-za in April 1916
and at the Tokyo Minami-za in December 1923.  I cannot
entirely rule out the possibility that this print reflects
Fukusuke V's December 1923 performance.

Mairu Yukari no Otozure
(吉様参由縁音信) at the Shintomi-
za in January 1923, and in Oshichi

za in May 1924.  This print could
depict one of those performances.
However, this design was
reproduced as a frontispiece in a
May 1926 issue of Engei to Eiga,
making it like that it depicts the
