Note: The caption of the print is Gaisen (凱旋) -
Triumphant Return.  Jûzô IV had just returned
from fighting in the Russo-Japanese War.  Two
other plays on the same bill at the Kabuki-za
were "Okuno Kiroku" (陸奥記録) and "Gunjin
Katagi,", two victory-commemorating war
dramas directed by Jûzô IV's adopted father
Kataoka Ichizô III (片岡市蔵).

Note:  Ichizô IV first played this role in Tokyo at the Engi-za
 in December 1910.  He would again play this role at the
Teikoku Gekijô in July 1921 and at the Meiji-za in February
1924.  It is possible that Shunsen based this print on his 1921
