Note: This appears to depict a scene from some
version of Chûshingura (假名手本忠臣蔵). 
However, I have not found an instance where both
actors appeared together in Tokyo in these roles.
They did perform the Michiyuki Tabiji no
Hanamuko (道行旅路の花聟) scene of Kanadehon
Chûshingura (假名手本忠臣蔵; 仮名手本忠臣蔵)
together at the  Osaka Kabuki-za in October 1955
and at the Minami-za in Kyoto in December 1955.
A similar but more detailed version of this design
is shown in the 2002 and 1991 Shunsen catalogs
(and appears to be a painting).
