Series: Meifu no Miyage shi Gei no Omokage (冥府苞苴劇容彩)

Note: It is unclear if this is a woodblock print, a watercolor
drawing, or a hand-colored keyblock print for an
unpublished design.  This appears to be a design for the
porftfolio cover or insert thereto.

Note: It is unclear if this is a woodblock print, a watercolor
drawing, or a hand-colored keyblock print for an
unpublished design.   Kan'ya XIII (erroneously denominated
Kan'ya XIV on the print) died on June 16, 1932 at age 48.

Note: It is unclear if this is a woodblock print, a watercolor
drawing, or a hand-colored keyblock print for an
unpublished design.  Kaisha died on March 13, 1945 at age
71.  I can find no record of Kaisha playing Chiyo in any
production of Sugawara Denju Tenarai Kagami in Tokyo.
Kaisha did, however, play a character named Chiyo in a
March 1940 production of Awa no Konayuki (阿波の粉雪)
at the Tokyo Gekijô,

Shirabyôshi Hanako (白拍子花子)

Play: Musume Dôjôji (娘道成寺)
Performance Place: ?
Performance Date: ?
Print Date: ?
Personal Collection

Note: Kikugorô VI first performed the role of Hanako in
Tokyo at the Shintomi-za in September 1912.  His final
performance in Tokyo was at the Tokyo-za in January
1948.  Without knowing the date of the print, it is
difficult to know the precise performance depicted.  There
are, however, costume similarities to a photograph from a
December 1938 production at the Kabuki-za.  Since
Kiugorô VI died in July 1949, it is likely the print was
made on or before 1949, or perhaps as a memorial print.
