Note: This print was a collaboration between Kunichika and Yasuji, with Kunichika designing the
figures and Yasuji designing the background. It is also a reprinted version of an 1886 triptych that
had originally featured Sadanji I and Danjuro IX as Hanaosho and Kyûmonryû, respectively. The
actors' cartouche was recarved to reflect the actors appearing in the new production. Yasuji had
been dead for nine years at the time that this version was published.

this is based on since no date seems to appear on the print itself. Its database indicates that
a corresponding theatrical performance is unknown, but Kabuki-Shinpa-Shinkokugeki Haiyaku
Sôran (7th Edition) indicates that Sadao and his troupe performed it at the Shintomi-za in July
1900, and that was on the same bill with Koi no Pisutoru.
