MATSUDA SEIFÛ
1916
Jitsukawa Enjaku II
Furuteya Hachirobê (古手屋八郎兵衛)
Play: Kane Morotomo Urami no Samezaya
Performance Place: Hongô-za, Tokyo
Performance Date: 02/06/16
Print Date: 02/1916?
Medium: Woodblock printed postcard
Personal Collection
Note: Enjaku II I also portrayed
Hachirobê in an August 1926 production
at the Kabuki-za. Stylistically, however,
it more closely resembles Seifû's Yakusha-e
prints of 1915 than his later Nigao-e prints.
Nakamura Kichiemon I (中村吉右衛門)
as Banzuiin Chôbé (幡随長兵衛;
Play: Hanakawado Uwasa no Manaita
Performance Place: Ichimura-za, Tokyo
Performance Date: 11/01/16
Print Date: 11/1916?

Note: Kichiemon I also portrayed
Banzuiin Chôbé in an October 1919
production of Kiwametsuki Banzui
Chôbé (極附幡随長兵衛;
極付幡随長兵衛) at the Ichimura-za,
so it is possible that this print relates to
that performance. Stylistically,
however, it more closely resembles
Seifû's Yakusha-e prints of 1915 than
his later Nigao-e prints.
