Note: Since the left panel of this
triptych is missing, the date of this
print and the name of the artist
        cannot be conclusively established,
although it looks like the work of
        Utagawa Kunsidada III (as Kochoro).
Based on an ehon sujigaki for this
play which depicts this scene, the
        missing panel would appear to
        depict another naval warship, possibly
in distress.  If you have an image of
        this panel, please contact me.

Note: It is unclear if this is a woodblock print, a watercolor
drawing, or a hand-colored keyblock print for an
unpublished design.  Arao Jôsuke was a sequel to Konjiki
Yasha (金色夜叉), a novel by Kôyô Ozaki, Konjiki
Yasha was adapted for the stage in a March 1898
production at the Ichimura-za that starred Minoru and
was included on November 1912 bill at the Hongô-za,
Since Minoru played the same character in both plays,
the print could depict him in either play.  Takada
Minoru died on September 20, 1916 at age 46.
