Artist: Nobukata (Nobumasa?) (信方)
Medium: Lithograph?

Note: Although it is not clear the time period that Nobukata
was active, it is believed to have been in the 1920s.
During
that period, Enjaku II performed this role in Tokyo at the
Hôgaku-za in November 1924 and the Asakusa Shochiku-za
in February 1926. However, it could also represent a
regional
performance since the Kyoto printmaker Yoshikawa Kanpô
also designed a print of Enjaku II in this role in 1924.

unpublished design. Kan'ya XIII (erroneously
denominated
Kan'ya XIV on the print) died on June 16, 1932 at age 48.

Play:

Print
Date: 2012
Artist:
Tachihara Inuki (立原位貫)
Personal
Collection (#42/100)
Note: The
precise performance depicted in this print is not known at this
time.
Kamejirô II changed his name to Ichikawa Ennosuke IV in June
2012 and
performed the "Kawatsura Hôgen Yakata" scene of
Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura at the Shinbashi Enbujô, Tokyo, in
connection with the first month of his shûmei.
However, since the
print
doesn't reflect Kamejirô II's new name, one can only assume it
was based
on earlier performance. It is possible, however, that it was
made with
the foreknowledge of the upcoming Shinbashi Enbujô
production, and was based on photos or video of a prior
production,
rather
than one that Inuki actually saw in person. During the time
that
Inuki was actively making his own actor prints, Kamejirô II
performed
this role at the Meiji-za, Tokyo, in May 2011, and at
the
Kokuritsu
Gekijô, Tokyo, in August 2010.
